Is CPR included?
CPR training is included in specific courses. CPR training is also available as a stand-alone program. The proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a fundamental part of the CPR course, though the specific content may vary depending on the type of course. For example, AHA Professional Rescuer CPR is always included in our month-long WEMT course. For more details, please refer to the course schedule or contact us with any questions.
Will I have to take tests?
Testing is an integral part of many SOLO training programs, with the type and format of tests varying by course.
In shorter courses, such as the Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course, there are no formal tests. However, participants are continuously evaluated to ensure they understand and can properly demonstrate the required skills.
The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course includes both a written exam and a practical skills exam.
The Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT) course involves a a computer-based test administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), the certifying agency.
Additionally, quizzes and impromptu skills assessments are a regular feature of most courses to reinforce learning and assess proficiency.
What happens if I fail a test?
Re-testing opportunities depend on the specific exam and course.
General Re-Testing:
In most cases, re-testing is allowed, though the number of attempts permitted varies by course.
WEMT NREMT Computer-Based Exam:
If you fail, you must wait 15 days before re-testing, which can be done at testing centers nationwide.
After a second failure, you must wait an additional 15 days before trying again.
If you fail a third time, you must complete a refresher course. This grants you up to 3 additional attempts, for a total of 6.
If all 6 attempts are unsuccessful, you will need to retake the entire course.
For more information, please visit the course details page.
Will I get certified?
Most of our courses include certifications that remain valid for the following durations:

Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT): 2 years
GeoMedic™: 3 Years

How do I get recertified?
Wilderness First Aid (WFA):
To recertify your WFA, simply retake the course.
Wilderness First Responder (WFR):
To recertify your WFR, you have two options:
Take a 2-day WFA course (available exclusively to SOLO graduates).
Take a 2-day WFR Review course, which is the more appropriate choice for WFR recertification.
Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT):
To recertify the wilderness portion of your WEMT certification, follow the WFR recertification process above.
To recertify the EMT portion, visit the NREMT website to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.
Important: To maintain your WEMT certification, you must keep your EMT certification current.
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) requires certified EMS professionals to renew their certification every two years. This process ensures that practitioners maintain current knowledge and proficiency in emergency medical services. Please See: https://www.nremt.org/Document/Recertification
Is there a grace period for getting recertified?
No. All certifications expire after their allotted time period. However, if there are extenuating circumstances that make recertifying in a timely manner impossible for you (e.g., you will be working in Antarctica for 6 months), you may request to be considered for an extension. Your request should be emailed to info@soloschools.com prior to expiration and must include a copy of your certification card. Not all extension requests are granted.
