Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

The AEMT will, over the next 3 years in NH (and on various timetables in most other states), replace the old standard of EMT Intermediate. Designed during the 6 years of the National Scope of Practice Study the AEMT is built to enhance the knowledge base of the Intermediate and set the groundwork for increased ALS capabilities. It has been quickly described as the volunteer Paramedic...an ALS provider who wants to offer a higher level of care without the career-type commitment and schooling of the Paramedic.
Review of EMT skills, enhanced trauma skills, fluid therapy (IV & IO), use of medications like albuterol and nitroglycerin, cardiology, CPAP, nitrous oxide for pain, and skill enhancements with advanced airway use are just a few of the topics covered. This 150+ hour course (not including clinical requirements) will meet and exceed NH license standards and follow with NREMT certification.
